Fahrenheit 451
September 2-18: Previews August 31 and September 1
by Ray Bradbury
Directed by Ralf Remshardt

Opening September 2

The Hippodrome and the UF School of Theatre + Dance partner to open the 50th season with Ray Bradbury’s classic, exploring a dystopian world turned away from science, art, and individuality. In this futuristic world, the written word is forbidden, and firemen burn books instead of fighting fires. Society is forced to choose between a regimented existence or risk everything for the right to think. Originally published in 1953, this science fiction classic reverberates even more today.

“Fahrenheit 451 reminds us that when we choose momentary entertainment over personal connections and learning about the world around us, we are left with nothing but smoke and ashes.” – Broadway Review

“Bradbury’s broader theme, though, is the extinguishing of the mind, the loss of the art of conversation, and the slow, steady erosion of quality. The society he describes is losing its ability to think.” – Eric Ringham, Minnesota Public Radio® News
